Experiencing KL Tower: A skyhigh experience in Kuala Lumpur

One of the must-see landmarks in Kuala Lumpur, alongside the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, is the stunning KL Tower. Recently, my husband, a friend visiting us in KL, and I decided to explore this towering marvel. Here’s a detailed account of our visit, filled with tips and insights to help you make the most of your trip.

Touching the Sky in Kuala Lumpur

Planning the Visit

As KL Tower is a prominent feature of the city’s skyline, we were eager to explore its famed Sky Deck and Sky Box. We checked the ticket prices online and found the best deal on Klook, which not only offered the cheapest tickets (around RM 80-90) but also included three Grab vouchers worth RM 10 each.

Getting There

Reaching KL Tower can be a bit tricky as there is no direct public transport. Unless you are up for a bit of a walk, the best way to get there is by cab, unless you have your own vehicle. Since we had the Grab vouchers, we decided to take a Grab ride, which cost us around RM 20.

Entrance

Upon arrival, we noticed multiple queues at the entrance. Make sure you join the correct one; otherwise, you will waste unnecessary time in line. The group queue is for large groups, while the other is for individuals. Since we had booked our tickets online, we needed to get a physical ticket at the entrance. Even though we were just three people, they offered us a group pass, which we accepted for convenience. However, I recommend opting for individual passes to avoid any issues later.

Sky Deck Experience

Our adventure began with a visit to the Sky Deck. If you can, plan your visit for the evening, as the city views at this time are absolutely breathtaking. You’ll have 30-60 minutes to roam around the deck, taking in panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur from all angles. The sight of the Twin Towers from here is particularly mesmerizing, offering a perfect backdrop for photos.

“From the heights of KL Tower, the city unfolds beneth you.”

The Sky Box Thrill

The highlight of our visit was the Sky Box, a glass-bottomed box that extends out from the Sky Deck, providing a thrilling view of the city below. Here’s where we faced a small hiccup: with our group pass, we only got the time allocated for one person in the Sky Box, which is about 90 seconds. For the best experience, make sure to get individual passes to ensure everyone gets enough time to enjoy this unique feature.

The Sky Box is a bit scary but incredibly exhilarating. The glass floor gives you a vertigo-inducing view straight down to the ground. It’s a popular spot, so be prepared for a quick photo shoot. The KL Tower staff will start taking pictures immediately, asking you to pose. If you want your own photos, make sure someone in your group is ready with a camera, as the professional photos they take can cost around RM 80-100 and might not be up to your standards.

Final Tips

  • Ticket Booking: Check online platforms like Klook for the best deals and additional perks like Grab vouchers.
  • Time Your Visit: Aim for an evening to enjoy both daylight and twilight views of the city.
  • Individual Passes: Opt for individual tickets rather than group passes to avoid timing issues at the Sky Box.
  • Photos: Have your camera ready or ask someone to take your pictures to make the most of your brief time in the Sky Box.
  • One-Time Visit: Given the nature of the experience, it’s best to make the most of your visit as it’s likely a one-time adventure.

Visiting the KL Tower was an unforgettable experience, offering a unique perspective of Kuala Lumpur’s sprawling cityscape. Despite a few minor hiccups, the stunning views and thrilling Sky Box made it well worth the visit. If you’re in KL, don’t miss the chance to see the city from one of its highest points—it’s an experience you won’t forget.
